Seein' how've I been in a pthalo blue rut for some time now. This is Robert Pete Williams. In the 50's Mr. Williams was convicted of murder and sentenced to life inprisonment in Angola State Penn, until the man responsible for Arhoolie records came and recorded his blues. The scholar then played Mr. Williams' blues for Warden and the Warden had Robert play before a judge. The judged granted Robert pete Williams parole with three years probation, just in time for the huge blues/folk revival in the 60's. At the end of his life, Robert died a free man on his own land, after traversing the globe several times playin' the music he loved. Fat Possum released a pretty fine album of his songs, worth checkin' out. His music is definitley avant blues, if ever there was such a thing.

Illustration Friday: Free

The Kingdom of Heaven is Within
Ink and Acrylic on wood
24" x 24"

Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow, the second album from funk rockers Funkadelic, fronted by the ever present intergalactic grandmaster of funk hisself, George Clinton. Makes sense! His style is part sung, part rapped, growled and garbled mostly stream-of conscious crazy dirty flow. His first solo recording is arguably his best produced by the Wu's RZA, called Enter the 36 Chambers: the Dirty Version. Great album, backed with hard early 90's beats. ODB dies last November of heart problems while in the Wu's studio, reportedly clean and sober.
I am still stuck on the pthalo blue.
